The Miller's Walk

A 1.5 mile walk along the River Skell featuring views of Ripon Cathedral and Ripon's historic architecture.

 A One mile route through Ripon's historic streets with the opportunity to visit three social history museums.

1. Starting in the market square by the obelisk, face the Town Hall, turn left and follow the road down Market Place South.

2. Cross the road outside Manchega and continue along Kirkgate.

3. At the end of the road, cross Minster Road to reach the West front of Ripon Cathedral.

4. Facing the entrance to the Cathedral, turn right and go through the gap in the low wall to join the path through the churchyard.

5. Follow the path through the churchyard and upon reaching the iron gates at the bottom of the hill, go through the gates and turn left to enter High St Agnesgate.

6. Continue along the road and turn right at the junction onto Low St Agnesgate.

7. At the end of the road, continue straight ahead and turn left at the concrete bridge and walk along the riverside path.

8. Upon reaching the ford and wooden bridge, cross the wooden bridge and immediately turn right on the opposite bank to retrace your steps but on the opposite bank.

9. Oce you have reached the concrete bridge and Water Rat Public house, continue to follow the riverside path going under the stone bridge.

10. Continue until you reach the iron bridge and cross the road to rejoin the riverside path.

11. At the end of this path, you will encounter another bridge on your right hand side.

12. Keeping this bridge on your right, continue along the footpath and upon reaching an older stone bridge, cross the road and follow the footpath across the bridge.

13. Upon leaving the bridge, turn left onto Borrage Lane.

14. Walk down the entire length of Borrage Lane until you reach a green grass area where the River's Laver & Skell meet.

Whilst walking down Borrage Lane, keep an eye open for a green plaque on a cottage indicating that the WW1 war poet, Wilfrid Owen stayed there in 1918.

15. At the end of the road, turn right onto High Cleugh and follow the road until it joins with Mallorie Park Drive.

16. Turn right onto Mallorie Park Drive and continue straight ahead until you reach Hugh Ripley Hall on your right.

17. At this point, cross the road and follow the path leading past Bellvue Terrace and through a paasageway that leads to Westgate. 

18. Upon reaching Westgate, turn right to return to the Market Square to end the route.
