 1. Starting at the Obelisk, face the Town Hall, turn left and descend the hill down Market Place South.

2. At the fork in the road, continue down the hill onto Duck Hill.

3. Upon reaching the road at the bottom of the hill, turn left and continue until you encounter a roundabout.

4. Cross the road (Bedern Bank) at the crossing and follow the road to the left.

5. Continue to follow the pavement crossing the end of High St Agnesgate and proceed across the stone bridge.

6. Follow the pavement until you reach Ripon Bowling Club and cross the road outside.

7. Go through the gap in the wall to enter Ripon Canal Basin and turn left to join the path.

8. Follow the path alongside the canal, keeping the road on your left.

9. Passing under the bypass through a tunnel, the path continues past a white wooden bridge on your right.

10. Keep following the path past the first lock and continue along the canal.

11. Upon reaching Nicholson's bridge, the path becomes unaccessible for those with mobility issues or wheelchair users. It is advisable for those with reduced mobility to turn around at this point.

12. Follow the grass path alongside the canal passing Ripon Motor Boat club on your right and observing Ripon Racecourse on your left as you proceed along the path.

13. Upon reaching Renton's bridge, cross the canal using the bridge and bear right to follow the paved track up into Littlethorpe Village.

14. At the end of the lane, climb over the stile and proceed through the short woodland section until you encounter a second stile.

15. Climb over the stile and turn right following the road round to the right.

16. Taking care, navigate the blind corner and continue straight ahead.

17. At the end of the road, turn right, passing the church of St Michael & All Angels on your right.

18. Follow the road round to the left and continue along the road until you reach the white bridge you passed earlier in the walk.

Alternatively, continue straight ahead, cross Nicholson's bridge and turn left to retrace your steps back into Ripon.

19. Cross the white bridge and turn left to retrace your steps.

20. Retrace your steps from the beginning of the walk to return to the Market Square.
